The (Not So) Green Lobster

Yes, that's a dead giant lobster. In the back of Forrest's car. Bought for all the loose change in their pockets ($1.35).

This guy at the electronic flea market in Sunnyvale had this horrendous marbled-green frame with a huge dead lobster attached to it. Forrest, Jerry, and Aaron insisted that I buy it, but I wasn't so convinced — and I certainly wasn't going to pay for such a thing.

But as we walked around the market a bit more, I semi-gave in and told them I would get it if they all paid for it. They scrounged up $1.35 in loose change and we went back to the guy at the truck. I told him I didn't quite have the two dollars he was asking for, but as soon as he realized I was going to take the lobster off his hands, he reached over the truck bed and cupped his hands for the coins in a real hurry — as if he were afraid I would change my mind in the next few seconds. Can't imagine why he would worry about such a thing. ;)

So the Gang wants me to paint this monster green and put it in the back of my car (which is, coincidentally, called the Green Lobster by those In The Know). For now, it's helping to block sun from coming in one of our windows. We shall see what happens to it.

Drinking Chocolate Recipe

Continuing with not being sleepy, I thought I'd share the drinking chocolate recipe (meant as a much cheaper replacement of Starbuck's $2.65 drink) that Jerry and I came up with after some trial and error.

Drinking Chocolate

  • 5 cups milk
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 24 oz chocolate chips
  • 1 T vanilla extract

Heat milk/cream mixture until warm enough to melt chips (about 100 F). Stir in chocolate slowly over low heat. Add vanilla extract.

Don't drink too much of this at one time, though. Starbucks serves it in 6-ounce servings for more reasons than just profitting off a very over-priced drink. (The above recipe works out to just 16%, costwise, of what Starbucks sells it for.)

Late Night Nothingness

Robot Chicken is so strange and cool. Not as much fun to watch without the Coding Party crew, though.

I hate it when I'm sorta tired — not really enough to sleep, but also not awake enough to do much of anything useful, either. So I'm watching random things on TV, blogging, and contemplating finishing off the batch of drinking chocolate I made while visiting my family back home...

Undisclosed WOOOOTness

After a questionnaire and two phone interviews, Microsoft flew me up to Redmond for an on-site interview. Tim travelled with me, which was nice. Microsoft payed for $15 breakfasts, $20 lunches, and $40 dinners while I was up there. So much food! The hotel they put us up in was $170 per night (or at least that's what a sign Tim saw said — Microsoft could very well be getting corporate and/or bulk discounts). Unfortunately, the hotel itself felt pretty much identical to a much cheaper hotel, plus it had hideous quilts on the beds. Wish I'd taken a picture, now that I think about it. Let's just say Aaron's Connect 4 would have gone well with the sheets.

Five interviews (two teams) and seven hours later, I was done with the interviews. [Edit: I've been asked not to talk about details outside of my family. I'll find out what the exact "rules" are and keep y'all posted.]

Llama Song & Telephony

I don't know how long this has been around the 'net, but my mom just sent me a link to the Llama Song. If you haven't seen it yet, enjoy. :)

In unrelated news, I've recently become re-interested in trying to talk to people over the Internet. I was looking at Skype a week or so ago, but today I found TheSwitchboard, which is just a Java applet and thus requires no installation. Now, if only I had someone to test it with... I'll get one of you, don't you worry. Muahaha.

Good Porn

Hey! Wait! Don't run away! No, seriously, this is a good porn site. Yes, even you, dear little sister, should go look. ;)

Addendum: Except I might dis-recommend the video, which wasn't there last time I visited the site. The sound is a bit, erm, much.
